As part of the activities of the University of the Third Age, another educational session took place, organized with the participation of a lawyer from a public organization “TAKE and GLORY” Olena Galimon. This time the topic of the meeting was citizens' appeals: “Claim, request, complaints and petitions. How to do, to be heard”.
Participants learned:
• what is the difference between the statements, complaints, motions and petitions;
• what are the conditions and requirements for processing each type of appeal;
• when to choose one or another communication format.
Special attention was also paid to the terms of consideration of various types of appeals. Lawyer, how long the authorities have to respond according to the law, and emphasized, that violation of these terms is grounds for challenging the actions or inaction of officials.
Besides, discussed the responsibility for not providing citizens with information — what about the administrative consequences for officials, as well as the possibility of further protection of rights through the court.
A separate part of the lesson was devoted to the differences between procedural and non-procedural statements. Those present received an explanation, when it comes to an official appeal to a court or other body, and when - about ordinary communication with authorities or institutions.
The class was held in a friendly atmosphere - the audience asked many questions, shared their own stories, and most importantly, gained practical skills, which will help them to be more active and confident citizens.
